Travels: Florida Phase 1 - The Casino Diaries

It’s rare that we have a summer like this one - free of any and all touring, press, and recording. While it doesn’t mean we’re free from work (still have to promote singles, get the tour together, and all of that jazz), we’re trying to relish every second of our low-key summer. Who knows when we’ll get another one like it, yaknowwutimean? So we decided that in order to make the best use of our non-existent vacation fund we'd go visit family in Florida for week one of FLORIDAPALOOZA 2015.

After a cool 15 hour drive from Nashville, we made it to the sunny shores of Pompano Beach, Florida - AKA home of Grandma and Grandpa. These are Ron's grandparents, mine are no longer here on this beautiful Earth, but are always with me in my little heart. Ron's G&G have welcomed me in and spoiled me in a fashion that my Grandma, Granddaddy, Tutu, and Big Hal (yes, that's a grandfather name) would appreciate.

So, Grandpa likes to go to the casino... and you can't even call what he does "gambling" because it's not technically gambling if you always win. I don't know if it's luck or what, but that man knows what he's doing. Meanwhile, I lose every cent I play, so I respect the casino gods and keep my money in my wallet for safe keeping. I was also mean-wife and wouldn't let Ron play either (HELLO, we just bought a house). However, because Grandpa is Grandpa and has one bazillion friends, we got to eat in the Casino restaurants and were treated like royalty. It was pretty much the best and most entertaining thing we could have done.

We were also treated to an afternoon of skating practice for both Ari and Caden (Ron's smallest cousins) -- they are AMAZING! I consider myself fairly coordinated, but these kids make me look like I have two left feet. Kids are the coolest little things (when they aren't screaming)

After 4 sweet days in Pompano, we headed north with a short stop in Windermere, FL to visit my great-aunt Sue. She is one special lady - sharp as a tack, witty, and an amazing storyteller. She is in the midst of redecorating the lake-side house I grew up visiting, so it was a treat to get to spend the afternoon catching up with her in that old house. I want to be just like her when I grow up.

There you have it! Week one in Florida down!
