Family Traditions

Hello, pumpkins. Hope you had a fun Halloween last night. What's that? You want me to be quiet? Your head hurts?? WELLLLLLL, I'm sorry Slightly Slutty Princess Ariel, I will not! It's a rainy fall weekend here in New York and I've got things to do. One of which is to finish this blog that I've been meaning to post for weeks.

About 6 years ago, my main man RP and I started a really sweet tradition of going on a day-trip to the Hamptons each year in the fall. I wrote about it once before in a really lovely post (If I do say so myself) on my old blog that I actually used to keep up. Slowly that day trip became a stay over trip, and then this year we finally jumped into a weekend trip. However, it was with good reason that we indulged in a little Hamptons R&R - we were celebrating our very first wedding anniversary. Cheers to us, we made it through a year of wedded bliss. As most of you know, it wasn't exactly a typical first year of marriage. While we did get to visit something like 15 countries, we were mostly working non-stop and some of the year we spent completely apart (probably 2.5 entire months total). Not exactly our first choice, but we don't lead the most conventional lives.

Nonetheless, we wanted to make this weekend really special, so we rented an SUV, rented a cottage, and spent 3 beautiful days work-free and totally alone. We brought books, National Geographic, and our favorite red wine. We were prepared to relax and we did just that. We wandered every adorable street in town, picked apples & pumpkins, and had a few over-the-top delicious dinners (Seawater at Gurney's Inn in Montauk; Meeting House in Amagansett). We did a few wine tastings & bought two cases of the good stuff. We ate our wedding cake made by the best Brooklyn baker - Nine Cakes (not the year old thing, we didn't hold on to that tradition - blech).

I mentioned in the post before that this has become one of my favorite weekends and that still holds true. I'm a sucker for family traditions and we're lucky to have found something so early in our relationship that we'll carry forward for the rest of our lives.

I didn't want to inundate this post with recommendations, so if you want any, just give me a shout.

Photographic evidence of a perfect weekend  (yes, I brought a tripod, who do you think I am?)

If you'll notice, I'm still obsessed with catching bees in action. I swear one of these days I'm going to go full on bee suit and jump into a hive. Those crazy, determined little guys are so ridiculously amazing to me. I kept cheering for the bees in the apple orchard to keep eating the apples and to go make delicious honey with it. MAGIC.

Do you guys want to see a few wedding pics? I've been thinking about posting a few... Let me know.

xoxo,

b
