Lost in Lou

Oh hey oh hey. We've been back at home for a week and I'm finally sorting through this mess of photos. The tour was amazing - the new songs slayed and really seemed to resonate with everyone. SUCCESS! However, touring itself is weird. We go so many places, but rarely get to see or do anything out of the ordinary. On some days I only see the bus and the venue, depending on how busy it is. 

Luckily, we had two days "off" in Louisville so we had a minute to readjust to what life could be like when you sleep in a bed and not a bus. Saying we had two days off is a bit of a stretch since Ron also created a record on this tour, so there really wasn't a ton of downtime to be had no matter what. Either way, we DID get to celebrate a certain band member's birthday, so we did let loose for one night. Here are some fun Louisville suggestions if you happen to make your way through this lovely little piece of Kentucky:

1. Stay: Glassworks Building, Derby Lofts. Skip the hotel and stay in this awesome space. We rented a few lofts for the band and crew to stay in (and set up shop). It was amazing to have access to a real kitchen (and tons of coffee provided!). 

2. Lunch: Another Place Sandwich Shop. Nothing fancy about this old school deli, but it certainly is delicious. Perfect for a quick bite.

3. Dinner: St. Charles Exchange. I can't say enough good things about this spot. No one wore jean shorts and I got to have a glass of Veuve. This is tour?? If only! While everything I had was exceptional, an appetizer to note is the Elvis on Horseback (bacon wrapped, peanut butter stuffed dates). Really nice play on a pretty trendy app that, while delicious, has lost a little luster since it's on nearly every menu. 28 thumbs up!

4. Dranks: Holy Grale. First stop and favorite stop for the birthday drinks. Stuck inside an old church, the vibe is a little gothic and a little cozy. The back yard is full of communal tables, stain glass windows, and string lights. Perfect setting for a just-starting-to-be-fall evening. 

5. Dranks Part 2: Highlands Tap Room. Nothing trendy about this joint, but that made it all the more comfortable. Plus, a tumbler full of top shelf whiskey for six bucks? An amazing disaster in the making. At some point in the evening I conducted an interview with the birthday boy in a full English accent. No idea why. Thanks to the lovely people of Uber an Lyft for making sure we got home safe and sound that night. 

Louisville, you're a pretty cute little town. Thanks for being so hospitable to our rowdy bunch.
